'Why not start our dynasty now?' - How the Philadelphia Eagles have reacted to sensational Super Bowl victory

The Philadelphia Eagles are celebrating their second Super Bowl title after their emphatic victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Nick Sirianni’s men claimed a 40-22 victory in the New Orleans Superdome, ending the Chiefs’ hopes of an unprecedented three-peat.

Although he had a relatively quiet game as he let Jalen Hurts and the Eagles defense take centre-stage, Saquon Barkley was thrilled to finally get his hands on the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

“She looks prettier in person, I’ll tell you that,” Barkley said following the win. “You think about it, it’s better in person than it is in Madden, I’ll tell you, that playing as a kid. It’s everything you dream of. I’m just happy to be able to hold it, give it a kiss, and be world champs.”

The former New York Giant, who became just the ninth player in NFL history to run for 2,000 yards this season, also reflected on his journey as he pondered what next.

“I mean, yeah, it took seven years to get here — some ups and downs, some injuries,” he continued. “But coming here and being a part of this team, I remember the first time I was in the huddle, and I looked to my left and looked to my right and could see all the Pro Bowlers and all the All-Pros on the roster and on the offense.

“The defense, I ain’t gonna lie, I didn’t know we would have the No. 1 defense. It kind of makes sense now because with all the talent that we had, they gave us hell in practice in camp. But it’s a team effort, so just Year 1, why not?

“Why not start our dynasty now?”

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio conjured up a match-winning gameplan which saw his unit register six sacks, one shy of the Super Bowl record, and register three turnovers.

That included Cooper DeJean’s pick-six of Patrick Mahomes in the second quarter and Fangio admitted his defense played better against the Chiefs quarterback than he could have hoped for.

“He’s so good against pressure that I was hoping we could play the game without having to pressure much, and that happened,” Fangio told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “They exceeded my hopes and expectations, but I did believe we could have a good pass rush game.”

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurt was named as the game’s MVP, but he was also quick to salute the Herculean effort his team’s defense put in.

“Defense played their ass off. They played how they played all year. I truly believe offense wins games but defense wins championships. How our defense has been able to play is a great testament to them,” Hurts said following the win.
