Who is 2025 NFL top draft pick prospect Jaxson Dart?

Much of the quarterback discourse ahead of the 2025 NFL draft has centred around two players: Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders.

Ward, who set a college football record for total career touchdowns while playing for the University of Miami last year, is expected to be the first overall pick.

Sanders, the son of NFL great Deion Sanders and the signal caller largely responsible for the University of Colorado’s emergence as playoff challengers over the last two years, is considered the second-best quarterback in the 2025 class.

While Sanders has his doubters, he is projected to be an early first-round pick.

But as draft day approaches on 24 April, there is a growing buzz surrounding a third quarterback prospect: Jaxson Dart.

And there is plenty to like about the 21-year-old out of Ole Miss.

At 6ft 2ins and 223lbs, he is closer to the preferred physical dimensions of a top NFL quarterback than both Ward (6ft 1ins, 219lbs) and Sanders (6ft 1ins, 212lbs). Plus, he’s a more dynamic athlete, able to tuck the ball and run if designed plays break down.

Dart also possesses solid arm strength and has shown impressive production in his three years as the starter under centre for the Rebels.

Last year, he threw for a career-best 4,279 yards, with 29 passing touchdowns and just six interceptions. He also ran for a further 495 yards and three scores.

Dart is not a perfect prospect by any means. At Ole Miss, he ran a simplified, RPO-heavy offense, with head coach Lane Kiffin expertly designing plays and asking little of the quarterback in terms of pre- and post-snap reads.

At times, Dart was guilty of failing to see the whole field, too, missing open, end-zone bound receivers as his vision locked on one half of the gridiron.

And a horror show against Florida last season – in which he threw two costly late interceptions in a 24-17 loss – is a blot mark on his tape.

But for QB-needy teams who either don’t land one of Ward or Sanders or – as whispers around the league suggest – don’t view the latter as worthy of an early pick, trading back into the first round for Dart or holding steady to take him early in the second could represent a draft-day bargain.
