Saturday's LAFC vs Club America match will be played in front of a capacity crowd.
On Tuesday, FIFA announced that general public tickets for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup play-in game at BMO Stadium "sold out in the space of just a few days," ensuring a raucous atmosphere as the MLS and Liga MX sides vie for the Group D spot vacated when Club Leon was ruled ineligible due to club ownership rules.
The 22,000-seat venue is the downtown Los Angeles home of LAFC and it provides the setting for a high-stakes one-off match to determine which team will be placed in the group alongside Chelsea, Fluminense and Espérance de Tunis. Qualification for the Club World Cup also comes with a considerable financial incentive, as the announcement states that the winner of this weekend's clash will be "guaranteed a USD 9.55 million payout for qualifying, as well as additional prizes based on performance."
Along with the confirmation of a sold out venue, FIFA also confirmed the format for Saturday's match, which will follow established knockout-style rules familiar to football fans around the world.
"In the event that the match is level after 90 minutes, two 15-minute periods of extra time, with an interval of five minutes, will be contested," the statement read. "If the score is still level at the end of extra time, the winners will be determined by a penalty shoot-out."
The winner of Saturday's match will face Chelsea on June 16 in Atlanta, Georgia, followed by a June 20 showdown with Espérance in Nashville, Tennessee. They will close out their group stage on June 24 in Orlando, Florida, against Fluminense.
