Two Premier League sides resume their domestic duties after taking part in the Champions League as Liverpool prepare to welcome Newcastle United to Anfield on Saturday.
Liverpool head into the weekend in sixth place as they are mired in a five-match league winless skid, with their most recent Premier League contest resulting in a 3-2 loss to Bournemouth last weekend.
The Reds are coming off a 6-0 victory over Qarabag FK to finish the league phase of the Champions League, but recent victories midweek in cup competitions have not translated to success in the league as Liverpool followed last week's 3-0 Champions League win over Marseille with the aforementioned defeat to the Cherries, and they experienced similar disappointment by drawing lowly Burnley in a league match just days after their 4-1 FA Cup third-round win over Barnsley on Jan. 12.
As for Newcastle, they find themselves lower down the table but in better form than their hosts.
The Magpies are in ninth place but have lost just one of their past five league matches, winning three times during that span.
Like Liverpool, Newcastle were also active on Matchday 8 of the Champions League, travelling to Paris and grinding out a 1-1 draw with PSG to assure their spot in the knockouts.
DAZN News has all the information for Liverpool vs. Newcastle.
Liverpool vs. Newcastle will take place at Anfield on Saturday, January 31, at 8pm GMT in the Premier League.
That means that fans watching in North America's Eastern time zone will be able to watch at 3pm ET, while kick-off on the West Coast is at 12pm PT.
The Magpies are fresh off their morale-boosting draw at Paris Saint-Germain and may be able to use that road warriors mentality at Anfield as well.
Liverpool's lopsided victory over Qarabag FK may have gotten the Reds' juices flowing in terms of goal scoring, but they will find Newcastle a far tougher test overall.
Prediction: Liverpool 1-1 Newcastle
