Episode 19: Demba Ba. The year is 2008. Demba Ba scored ‘and I liked it’, to quote Katy Perry, who made waves in 2008 with her song ‘I Kissed A Girl’ on the newly launched music platform Spotify. In the same year, Barack Obama became US President and the hit series ‘Breaking Bad’ took off – as did TSG Hoffenheim in the first Bundesliga season in the club's history. Demba Ba played a major role in this. The Senegalese scored 14 times in the 2008/2009 season and contributed seven assists. Ba even scored twice in the 2-1 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Demba Ba – promoted with Hoffenheim, top scorer in China and twice champion in Turkey. In 2013, Ba moved from Newcastle to Chelsea FC and won the Europa League with the Blues without playing. The reason: The Senegalese player had already played for the Magpies in this competition during the same season. Newcastle were ultimately eliminated in the quarter-finals.
