The New York Giants are one of the oldest teams in the NFL, and the oldest in the north east of America, having been formed in 1925.
Success came immediately for the franchise, winning the NFL Championship in 1927 before repeating the same feat three more times in the pre-Super Bowl era.
The last of those NFL Championships came in 1956, and with it the start of a 31-year dry spell for the franchise in which they failed to reach another final.
That all changed in 1987 when over 100,000 fans packed into the Rose Bowl in California to see the Giants beat the Broncos 39-20, in part due to their outstanding defence which was dubbed the 'Big Blue Wrecking Crew'.
More success followed four years later when the Giants denied San Francisco 49ers a third straight Super Bowl appearance before narrowly overcoming Buffalo Bills 20-19 in Tampa.
The Giants' one and only Super Bowl defeat came in 2001, back in Tampa, when they suffered a heavy 34-7 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens, tied for the seventh largest margin of victory in the Super Bowl.
Perhaps the most famous of all the Super Bowls won by the Giants came in February 2008, when they upset the New England Patriots thanks in part to a remarkable catch from David Tyree which is known by many as the 'Helmet Catch'.
That win was the third biggest upset in Super Bowl history, and it was déjà vu four years later as the Giants once against denied the Patriots to claim their fourth Super Bowl win.
