The good news for the 5-5 Kansas City Chiefs? Despite their worst start to the season since 2015, they still have time to mount a playoff push and perhaps claim a Wild Card spot.
The bad news? The team standing in their way in Week 12 is the 9-2 Indianapolis Colts, arguably the surprise of the season after dominating the first half of the regular season.
Kansas City boasts talented weapons on offense, such as Travis Kelce, Rashee Rice, and Xavier Worthy, but quarterback Mahomes has struggled to get the best from his supporting cast in recent weeks.
Whether he can find his rhythm against a stingy Colts' defense that, even without star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, has limited opponents to a ninth-best mark of only 20.6 points per game could dictate the outcome of this high-stakes showdown.
Indianapolis quarterback Daniel Jones has also hit a dry spell, but with MVP candidate and leading NFL rusher Jonathan Taylor laying waste to defense on a weekly basis, this offense has what it takes to punish even the most accomplished defenses.
With emerging wideout Alec Pierce joining dynamic rookie tight end Tyler Warren as difference-makers in the passing game, Jones has the weapons he needs to run up the scoreline.
The Chiefs' defensive trio of George Karlaftis, Nick Bolton, and Trent McDuffie - all extremely capable on their day -Â could have their hands full containing the dangerous Colts' offense.
The Colts hold a 90% chance of reaching the playoffs and a 21% shot at the AFC’s No. 1 seed, trailing only the Patriots (29%) and Broncos (26%).
A win would bump Indianapolis' playoff odds to 97%, while a loss would drop them back to 85%.
The Chiefs have a 52% of making the postseason. A victory over the Colts pushes that to 63%, whereas a loss would drop their chances to 35%.
Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas, Missouri.
The venue holds the record for the loudest crowd noise ever recorded at a stadium, reaching 142.2 dB on September 29, 2014.
The Colts lead the series 18-10-0, and have won the last two games between the two teams.
Common sense and recent form suggest the Colts should comfortably dispatch with the struggling Chiefs, with Taylor racking up huge yardage in yet another dominant display.
However, with their backs against the wall, home advantage, and the loud Arrowhead crowd on their side, I believe the Chiefs come out fighting.
