Buckle up for what should be one of the biggest games of the 2025 NFL season so far, as the Philadelphia Eagles (7–2) host the Detroit Lions (6–3) in a clash that could reshape the conference race.
With the No. 1 team facing No. 12 in our NFL power rankings, this matchup goes far beyond standings. It’s a chance to shape playoff positioning, sharpen seeding, and maybe steal a psychological edge in what could end up being an NFC Championship Game preview.
Here's everything you need to know ahead of this can't-miss clash.
With a touchdown ratio of 16:1 and a career-high completion rate of 68.9%, quarterback Jalen Hurts is throwing the ball with precision.
The yardage figures don't compare with the gaudy examples set by quarterbacks on more pass-happy teams, but that's not the Eagles' offensive M.O.
The offense funnels through the ground game, where reigning Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley carries the load.
Barkley has struggled to get going this year, but after putting up 174 all-purpose yards a few weeks back, it feels like he's primed to erupt in the second half of the season.
Finding running lanes would be easier if opponents didn't key in on the ground game, and it's incumbent on wideouts DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown to force the Lions to respect the Eagles' aerial attack.
Brown, in particular, has been extremely quiet this year, much to his chagrin. All eyes will be on whether his recent complaint is answered with a more significant role in the offense.
The Lions’ defense stacks up well against Philly’s offense, sitting top-10 in yards per carry allowed, completion percentage against, and total sacks.
Defensive Player of the Year candidate Aidan Hutchinson is the standout member of the group, combining with standout linebacker Jack Campbell and safety Brian Branch to form an incredible trio.
One way or another, this matchup between the Eagles' offense and the Lions' defense should deliver fireworks.
Detroit boasts one of the most dangerous offenses in the league, with quarterback Jared Goff (20 touchdowns, three interceptions, 74% completion rate) playing at an elite level.
Of course, it helps that he has the weapons to create havoc for opposing secondaries. Wideouts Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and tight end Sam LaPorta are a weekly mismatch for anyone.
With talent like that in the passing game, you could be forgiven for assuming this offense isn't balanced. You'd be mistaken. The electrifying Jahmyr Gibbs and powerful David Montgomery create a one-two punch that can punish the Eagles' D if they give them an inch.
Gibbs also enters the game with the extra motivation of setting a record that would tie him with the late, great Jim Brown.
Philadelphia's defensive line has struggled to create pressure on opposing quarterbacks, but the addition of edge rusher Jaelan Phillips has already paid dividends.
Last week against the Packers, Phillips led the team with eight of the unit's whopping 27 pressures. In Phillips, DT Jalen Carter, and edge rusher Nolan Smith, this group has the personnel to carry that momentum over into this game and unsettle Goff.
The Eagles are dripping with talent at the second level, where Zack Baun, Nakobe Dean, and Jihaad Campbell roam the field.
They're no less impressive in the secondary, where Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell lead a group with the unenviable task of containing St. Brown, Williams, and LaPorta.
This matchup is sure to keep you glued to your screens.
Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia
The Eagles hold a slight 18-16-2 edge in the all-time series and have won both of their last two meetings.
While the Eagles are winning, their offense isn't quite clicking as it was last season. It's fair to wonder if the team chemistry has taken a hit with Brown's recent comments.
Much hinges on the availability of the Lions' Sewell and Taylor Decker at offensive tackle. If they play, Goff should have the time to pick apart the Eagles' D. If not, he might not have the time to do what he does best.
This prediction assumes that at least Sewell will be healthy.
