Bruce Carrington vs. Carlos Castro: Will one fighter's advantage in power be the difference?

DAZN
Ring 6: López vs Stevenson on DAZN PPV - Saturday

Bruce ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington has been unabashedly vocal about fighting his way to a dream bout with pound-for-pound king Naoya Inoue.

Well, the undefeated native New Yorker can take another step toward that direction Saturday night when he clashes with Carlos Castro for the vacant WBC featherweight world championship at Madison Square Garden, and live on DAZN PPV. The fight is one of three title bouts on a mega Ring VI card headlined by WBO super lightweight world champion Teofimo Lopez Jr. vs. unbeaten Shakur Stevenson.

Carrington (16-0, 9 KOs) produced two dominant victories in 2025, devastating Enrique Vivas with a third-round TKO in March before thoroughly outpointing Mateus Heita via a lopsided unanimous decision in July. The latter earned ‘Shu Shu’ the interim WBC featherweight title which he could turn into the full status world championship by defeating Castro (30-3, 14 KOs). The veteran Castro did not see any in-ring action in 2025, having last lost to Stephen Fulton way back in September 2024.

Will Carrington launch his 2026 campaign with another dominant sweet science display to be crowned a world champion? Or will Castro manufacture the upset to snatch the title for himself? With the stakes incredibly high, DAZN News evaluates who has the edge heading into this fight.

Boxing Styles

Watch Bruce Carrington’s last bout against Mateus Heita and you will see a fighter who met aggression with steady body punches and sharply-timed counterpunches.

Once ‘Shu Shu’ figures his opponents out, his hand raised from a boxing clinic has been the result.

His sharp boxing style will be up against a more deliberate Carlos Castro who loads up on punches to the body well but often leaves himself open to potshots in the process.

Stephen Fulton used spacing, timing and punching precision to eke out a win over Castro in September 2024 and Carrington is more than capable of doing the same.

Power

Castro can be a thumping puncher over several sequences of his fights. However, Carrington has the superior footwork, spacing, hand speed and angles. These attributes working together in unison could have Carrington’s power carrying over rounds better than Castro’s. Though this category is closer, Carrington has the skills to possibly generate his 10th career stoppage.

Mental Warfare

Everything Carrington has worked for comes to this point of becoming a world champion. ‘Shu Shu’ has shown world championship pedigree for quite some time and has Castro thoroughly scouted.

“I’ve been doing so much to make sure I’m overly prepared,” Carrington said. “I cannot wait until Saturday and you don’t want to miss the ‘Shu Shu’ show.”

Castro is a gritty, rugged fighter who Carrington can figure out and adapt to. What makes it harder on Castro is the fact he has not fought in over a year.

Who has the edge in Carrington vs. Castro?

Carrington is no stranger to Madison Square Garden as the Brownsville, Brooklyn native has won seven of his fights at the Theater at MSG.

Now, he has the grand stage of being crowned world champion at ‘The Mecca of Boxing’ itself and Carrington has all the tools to do it. DAZN News gives him the 3-0 edge heading into what should be an exciting bout.
