Daniel Dubois reunites with trainer Don Charles six months after split

Daniel Dubois has reversed his decision to leave Don Charles and is set to reunite with his former trainer six months after his loss to Oleksandr Usyk.

The Briton lost his IBF heavyweight title against the Ukrainian last July in an undisputed contest, suffering a fifth-round knockout at Wembley Stadium.

Dubois subsequently elected to part ways with long-term trainer Charles in the aftermath, moving instead to work with Tony Sims as he eyed a rebuild.

However, the star has now changed course, with business manager Riz Khan stating that his client will instead return to work with his ex-cornerman.

"On behalf of Team Dubois, I wish to confirm [...] that Daniel has decided to resume his professional relationship with Don Charles," he wrote on Instagram.

"Don Charles and his team guided Daniel to world champion status and oversaw the most successful period of his career.

"Following the defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, Daniel took time to reflect on his journey and the emotions surrounding the decision to part ways with Don.

"After careful consideration and discussions with the wider team, Daniel has chosen to reverse that decision.

"Daniel will now return to working with Don Charles, under whose corner he achieved his greatest accomplishment to date."

Dubois is yet to set a return to the ring following his loss to Usyk, as he seeks to push himself back into contention for a second heavyweight reign.

Brief wilderness over as Dubois seeks home comforts

There were more than a few murmurs in the aftermath of July's loss about whether Daniel Dubois had made the right call to split from Don Charles.

The fallout from the Briton's defeat to Oleksandr Usyk - and the now-infamous "gathering" that preceded it - seemed to make the trainer the fall guy.

Now, however, as the former world champion seeks to build a case for a second run towards the summit of the division, it seems he wants old tricks.

Charles presided over the most successful period of the star's career, including that brutal stoppage against Anthony Joshua that sent him soaring.

What has brought a change of heart to Dubois may remain under wraps for now - but if he is set to reunite, then he truly remains a formidable threat.
