Excitement is building ahead of an all-British heavyweight clash on tonight when Johnny Fisher and Dave Allen go head-to-head once more.

The contest, which will be broadcast live on DAZN from London's Copper Box Arena, will see Allen out for revenge after Fisher was controversially declared the winner following their first fight in Riyadh last December

With Allen getting a knockdown in round five of the 10-round affair and dominating thereafter, many were expecting Allen to have his hand raised. However, two of three ringside judges gave the victory to 'The Romford Bull' prompting some cries of outrage from the boxing community.

Ahead of the rematch this Saturday, I decided to go back and re-watch the first fight for the first time since reporting on it for DAZN News to see if my judgement changed or remained the same.

Before beginning the re-watch, my scorecard from that December night can be found below.

Johnny Fisher vs Dave Allen re-watch

Round 1

Fisher started strongly by establishing his jab which was quick and had plenty of power behind it. He was also effective in working from Allen’s body to the head with the left hook being the kick-starter for this game plan. A supposed low left saw Allen glance towards the referee, but he was caught off guard with Fisher throwing aplenty and a right hand narrowly missing his opponent.

10-9 Fisher

Round 2

Fisher’s assault to Allen’s body continued and the latter did not show any signs of these punches getting the better of him. An Allen left hook, his first significant punch of the contest, landed, but this was quickly followed by a successful Fisher right uppercut.

10-9 Fisher

Round 3

Allen’s looping right came into play during this round, but Fisher was able to successfully weave his way underneath it. While Fisher did not throw anything significant, he looked the busier fighter and the one showcasing the better boxing.

Round 4

The pressure from Allen was slowly increasing as with every passing second of the contest he continued to march Fisher down. Fisher was able to keep Allen at bay and an eye-catching one-two combination secures him the round.

10-9 Fisher

Round 5

A thrilling session which kicked off with Allen knocking down Fisher with a short-left hand. After meeting the referee’s count, Allen unloaded, and another left hand stunned ‘The Romford Bull’. Then came anAllen right uppercut with Fisher just about able to stand. Following a strong start from Fisher, momentum had quickly swung in Allen’s favour.

10-8 Allen

Round 6

Allen continued his ascendancy in the sixth with a right uppercut which sent Fisher’s head back. Fisher attempted to gain control by stretching out his left arm before following up with a right hand which worked on two occasions. With the round ending, Allen had Fisher rocked once more with a left hook, right hand combination.

Round 7

Allen was full of confidence, and his shot selection was a prime example. He kicked off the round with a looping right hand, followed by a left hand and a right uppercut. Allen then managed to back Fisher into the corner before landing another right uppercut. Fisher made sure that he was kept completely quiet with a successful left hand.

10-9 Allen

Round 8

Allen kicks off the round with a right hand with Fisher landing a body shot of his own shortly after. With under 20 seconds to go, the pair stand in the middle of the ring, and trade with an Allen left hook being the highlight which Fisher somehow absorbs.

10-9 Allen

Round 9

Analyst Sergio Mora gave the perfect description for this fight, he simply called it a “Bar fight”. All technique had indeed vanished at this point, and it was a case of who would be left standing. As had been the case since the knockdown, Fisher struggled to offer anything of note, while Allen continued to dominate, a left hook, right uppercut combination along with the frequent appearance of the clubbing right hand saw him tame ‘The Romford Bull’.

10-9 Allen

Round 10

With the suspicion that the fight is slipping away from him, Fisher was operating with some urgency. Two Fisher right hands kept Allen at bay who for the first time in a long while during this contest, failed to throw any of those looping rights which caused so many problems.

10-9 Fisher

Score totals and round-by-round scorecard

After a second viewing, I still had Dave Allen as the winner against Johnny Fisher, but my scorecard a lot closer compared to when I watched the fight live on December 21.
