One of the most thrilling boxers that the sweet science has to offer is back as Gervonta “Tank” Davis puts his WBA lightweight world championship on the line against Lamont Roach at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and live on pay-per-view, Saturday night.
Davis (30-0, 28 knockouts) is coming off an eighth-round KO of Frank Martin last June in his only ring appearance of 2024.
Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs) delivered an eighth-round TKO of Feargal McCrory in June as that was his only fight of 2024 as well.
Here, DAZN News analyzes who has the edge heading into the Davis vs. Roach world title fight.

With a 93 percent knockout ratio as one of the most explosive finishers in boxing, Gervonta “Tank” Davis is known for his generational power at 135 pounds.
Possessing that kind of thunder to his punch, the 30-year-old Baltimore native’s sound sweet science skills often get overlooked.
Fight after fight, Davis has shown the ability to set up and manufacture these knockouts with feinting, baiting and pinpoint precision — even if it means taking a few lumps along the way.
Roach can be a pressure fighter who is vowing to get to Davis and could have success doing just that.
However, the edge here goes to the champion until proven otherwise.

Davis has a highlight reel of otherworldly knockouts that could very well get another addition here with Roach moving up to test “Tank” at lightweight.
Roach has pop to his punch and should touch Davis with his sweet science output.
But Davis has dynamite in his hands as the likes of Frank Martin, Ryan Garcia, Rolando Romero, Mario Barrios, and especially Leo Santa Cruz can already attest to.
Davis’ power punches connect and it could be a quick extermination of Roach.
Davis and Roach being complimentary toward each other during the buildup to this fight eventually morphed into intensity between the two.
Both are promising a convincing victory which isn’t anything new in a world championship fight.
However, if there is a push here it could be that Davis has toyed with retirement in recent months.
Could that indecisiveness be the opening Roach needs to pull what would be a mammoth upset?
The boxing world will find out Saturday night.
Lamont Roach is a determined and aggressive fighter who could beat opponents with his bundled sweet science and scrapping skills alike, though handing “Tank” Davis his first professional loss would require the challenger to devise a way to keep the champ from walking through turbulence just to detonate explosions of his own.
That is about as tough a task as any in boxing, especially for a fighter moving up to try to produce the upset. Davis has the 2-1 edge going into this bout.
As long as Davis’ thinking is clear, it is hard to imagine him being upset by a fighter daring to be great in “Tank’s” wheelhouse.
