Katie Taylor said it herself during the post-fight press conference after her majority decision win over rival Amanda Serrano in their trilogy bout Friday night.
“We created history three times,” Taylor told the media. “My name will always be embedded with hers forever.”
Taylor-Serrano, Ali-Frazier, Magic-Bird, Messi-Ronaldo to name a few of the many sports icons intertwined with legendary rivalries that will forever be remembered.
But what this Taylor-Serrano trilogy accomplished — over three decision wins for Taylor — was far greater than that, for they have been a giant vehicle for women’s boxing to thrive and spawn new great rivalries for years to come.
A look at Jake Paul’s and Nakisa Bidarian’s Most Valuable Promotions historic all-women’s card, which included a record-setting 17 world titles at stake at Madison Square Garden, will tell you that.
The opening contest between Canadian Tamm Thibeault and Mary Casamassa won't spawn a new rivalry but was set at three-minute rounds, which are the rules the men fight under. It went eight rounds, further pushing the idea for the three-minute rounds to be the norm in women's boxing permanently.

Ramla Ali defeated Lila Furtado by a unanimous decision that fans and critics did not necessarily agree with. Perhaps they should run it back.
Shadasia Green not only upset Savannah Marshall to become the unified IBF/WBO super middleweight world champion, but she also pocketed a cool $250,000 performance bonus from Paul and Bidarian for the fight of the night. The star-making performance from Green, who was down during early in the fight and had to rally to win, could put her line for bigger fights ahead and possibly even a mega clash with Claressa Shields.
Maybe Green and Marshall will also find themselves sharing a ring again over another 10 thrilling rounds.
Super bantamweight ruler Ellie Scotney was brilliant in defeating Yamileth Mercado and is in need of a superior dance partner to push her budding greatness.
While Taylor seemed to dismiss the notion of having a trilogy fight with Chantelle Cameron, perhaps undisputed super featherweight world champion Alycia Baumgardner would be more obliged to move up and fight Cameron at 140 pounds or a catchweight in between.
Baumgardner sparking a rivalry with Taylor or Serrano is also an intriguing prospect.
Off this card alone, seeds have been planted for new rivalries to grow, for larger fight purses to be collected.
And any new rivalries that come to fruition and flourish from here can thank the 30 rounds from Taylor and Serrano for the inspiration.
