Leigh Wood is relishing his return to the ring on May 10 when he faces Anthony Cacace in a super featherweight contest at Nottingham's Motorpoint Arena.
The contest, which will be broadcast live on DAZN, will be Wood's first fight since beating Josh Warrington in October 2023, and in that time, a lot has changed at super featherweight.
Cacace has been a part of that change. The Irishman has quickly become a dangerous operator at 130lbs with two impressive wins last year.
The first against Joe Cordina saw Cacace stop the Welshman to become the IBF super featherweight champion, and then came a unanimous decision win over Josh Warrington.
Now Cacace steps into the ring full of confidence and facing an opponent in Wood who is not afraid to stand in the middle of the ring and trade punches.
Speaking to The Stomping Ground, Wood had praise for Cacace's recent run of success, but is looking forward to the challenge of taking on a fighter in the ascendancy.
"It’s the same Anthony we’ve seen in recent times, he’s looking good," Wood said.
"The main thing at the minute is his confidence, it’s flying, he’s coming off his two biggest wins, he’s really believing in himself.
"I’m looking forward to the challenge of strangling the confidence out of him."
