Nick Ball says that he will not let Brandon Figueroa "come over and take" his WBA featherweight crown when they meet next February.
The pair will clash on February 7 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, where the former will bid to mount another successful defence.
Ball has emerged as one of Britain's hardest-working operators, but arguably faces his biggest challenge in a two-weight world champion.
Speaking at Wednesday's press conference, the star paid tribute to his opponent but insisted he will not let his status slip so easily too.
"There's more to my game than pressure," he said. "It's clever boxing. I can go on the inside or on the back foot. We'll have to wait and see.
"I don't think anybody will want it more than me in my home city. It's something I've worked hard [for]. I'm not going to let him come over and take it.
"He says he's coming with everything, but everything isn't enough. It's a proper fight. You don't become two-weight world champion by being average .
"He's a very good fighter. I'd be lying if I said these shows didn't mean the most to me. I started on small-hall shows and leisure centres, selling tickets
"I don't really know until I get in there what will happen. That's what it comes down to on the night. Nothing else matters [but] getting the job done."
