Eddie Hearn is confident that fight fans will see Jaron Ennis and Vergil Ortiz eventually collide, but the fight will not be happening anytime soon.
The super-welterweight pair, two of the best boxers in the world, have been speculated to fight for a sustained period now, but as it stands, the rivalry remains a verbal one with no sign of a deal in sight.
Earlier this month, Ennis committed his future to Matchroom and Hearn , and he is set to return to the ring in either September or October.
Ortiz has no fight lined up but a showdown with Ennis was rumoured for the major Saudi shows that are coming up live on DAZN in August and November.
After enjoying enormous success at welterweight, Ennis is hoping to achieve more at 154lbs, and victory over Ortiz Jr would be his biggest win to date.
Hearn, Ennis’ promoter, and the man who has made him a decent attraction in Philadelphia, was recently asked the situation on the fight and he provided a detailed response.
“We were asked to make that fight on August 16th, which we accepted it. They said Vergil wasn’t ready,” said Heran when speaking to AKHi TV .
“Then they said they want to do the fight on November 22nd. We’ve already got a fight for Boots planned at the end of September or early October.
“We will fight Vergil Ortiz, but he [Ennis] will have that one [tune-up] fight at 154, which isn’t unreasonable.
“This fight is going to get bigger and bigger. I don’t like to marinate fights, but these two are great undefeated fighters. The fight is going to get bigger and bigger. You don’t have to wait too long for that fight.”
