Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate will not feature for Liverpool in their Champions League match against Qarabag FK on Wednesday, Arne Slot confirmed.
Gomez started for the Reds in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Bournemouth but was subbed out in the 36th minute due to an injury, and Slot admitted that he is unsure when the central defender will return to action.
“No, not really," the Liverpool manager said on Tuesday when asked if he could provide an estimate for when Gomez would play again. "But I can confirm that he is not available for tomorrow evening.”
While he couldn't give a timeframe for Gomez's return, Slot doesn't think the 28-year-old will be out for the long term.
“I expect him back in a relatively short time,” Slot added.
As for Konate, the issue keeping him out of Liverpool's squad is not injury-related but rather a personal matter, Slot said. The French defender has missed the Reds' last two matches.
“Of course I spoke to him and if you know why he is not here, of course we both know that he is having a hard time," Slot said. "I’m hoping and expecting him back soon, but also not for tomorrow evening’s game.”
Liverpool are fourth in the league phase standings ahead of Wednesday's final matches and a win against Qarabag would secure a spot among the seeded teams in the round of 16.
