Crystal Palace were rampant in a 3-0 win at Aston Villa on Sunday, with Marc Guehi a key figure for Palace as usual.

Guehi scored the second goal of the match with a well-placed shot from the top of the box that would make any striker feel proud, helping the visitors secure their first league win of the campaign. He did so amid widely reported links to Liverpool, who look to acquire the centre-back ahead of the transfer deadline.

After Sunday's win, Guehi's teammates lauded the 25-year-old for his goal and for the attributes that have made him valuable for Palace and desired by the reigning Premier League champions.

"Every game he brings something new, and he is a fantastic player," Jean-Philippe Mateta, who scored the game's first goal, told Sky Sports. "I hope he stays with us."

Guehi's partner on the back line, Chris Richards, commended his teammate on the goal and noted the England international's leadership qualities.

"I'm not sure if it was a cross or a goal but it was amazing," Richards told BBC Match of the Day. "We look to Marc for a lot of guidance and a finish like that, a striker's finish, from a centre half puts the cherry on top. This is my fourth season playing here and I have enjoyed playing alongside him. We are the same age but he feels like the older man. He is our captain for a reason. It's been a joy to play with him and hopefully we can continue that."

Meanwhile, the man himself took time to acknowledge Crystal Palace and their fans, who Guehi says have made his time at the club "a pleasure" since he landed at Selhurst Park from Chelsea in 2021

"They mean a lot," Guehi told Sky Sports. "I'm a South London boy. Captain of the football club from a young age. They have been fantastic for me and my family. So it's definitely a pleasure to play for this football club.

"I don't like the limelight too much. There's a lot of cameras in my face all the time and constantly talking about me, but I'm lucky that I have a good club and teammates around me. When you focus on what's important, the football, it makes it a lot easier. I'm glad I've had my family around me, the football club, the staff. It's good."
