Who makes the Serie A team of the season so far?

The 2025-26 Serie A season has so far lived up to the expectations many had at the start of the campaign.

There's a narrow title race at the top that changes every week, as four teams slug it out to take control. The promoted teams have punched above their weight, while at the bottom, it's Fiorentina who are surprisingly the crisis club of the moment. 

However, which players have impressed the most during the first half of 2025-26? Ash Rose puts together the Serie A team of the season so far... 

Goalkeeper - Mike Maignan (Milan) 

The goalie's performances so far in 2025-26 underline why Milan needs to tie the Frenchman down to a new deal or risk losing him in the summer when his current deal runs out. 

Maginan is arguably the best stopper in Serie A right now, and so far has only conceded nine goals in 12 appearances, keeping six clean sheets. 

His performances have also seen him named Player of the Match on three occasions, most notably in the Milan derby, where the French number one saved a penalty to secure his side's 1-0 win over rivals Inter.

Right-back - Wesley (Roma) 

Signed in the summer, the Brazilian has made an impact for Roma at both ends of the pitch. 

He's been part of a backline that has conceded just eight league goals this season, the least in the division, but Wesley has also given the team an outlet going forward, too. 

Playing the wing-back role, he's netted three goals this season, including the winner against Como in what's been an impressive start to life in the Italian capital.

Centre-back - Gianluca Mancini (Roma)

Quietly going about his business this season in a Roma defence that's been the meanest in all of Serie A, Mancini is the epitome of reliable. 

He's been part of a back three that's conceded just eight goals and the constant in Gian Piero Gasperini's backline. 

With regular partner Evan Ndicka now at AFCON, it will now be down to the centre-half to keep the Roma defence as tight as it's been all season.

Centre-back - Tarik Muharemovic (Sassuolo)

A shout for Sassuolo, who have more than punched their weight since returning to the top flight and in Muharemovic, they have a defender who's helped them at both ends. 

Not only has he led a defence that is threatening the European places, thanks to outstanding displays, but he also chipped in with an assist and a goal during their 3-1 win over Fiorentina. 

With two Player of the Match awards to his name, it's been an eye-catching start for the Bosnia and Herzegovina man.

Left-back - Federico Dimarco (Inter) 

As far as full-backs go, there aren't many who are as effective in the whole of Europe as Dimarco this season. 

Playing in the left wing-back role for Inter, the Italian international has contributed two goals and five assists this season, the most assists by any defender and joint-highest in the entire league. 

He continues to be one of the most reliable defenders around, and key to both Inter's title charge and Italy's chances of qualifying for next summer's World Cup.

Inter's experienced midfield is a big reason behind why they are fighting it out at the top of the table and of those star names, it's Calhanoglu who's been the most crucial to Christian Chivu's side. 

Not only has he contributed six goals and one assist, but he has a 90% pass completion percentage this season, making him one of the most effective central midfielders around. 

The Milan side will hope the injury he picked up at the start of the month is nothing serious, as it could prove to be a real threat to their title ambitions.

Midfield - Frank Anguissa (Napoli)

All the talk before the season was about Kevin De Bruyne and Scott McTominay in Napoli's midfield, but it's been Angussia who's been the champions' most important player this season. 

The Cameroonian has offered balance across the middle for Antonio Conte and popped up with vital goals when it mattered as Napoli tries to cling on to their Serie A crown. 

Anguissa's winning goals against Cagliari and Leece have helped keep his side in the mix at the top of the table, and his impact has been badly missed since he suffered an injury in November. 

Attacking midfield - Nico Paz (Como)Getty

In the conversation for the standout player of the season, Paz is one of Europe's most exciting young attackers. 

No player has been involved in more goal involvements this season than the 21-year-old Argentine, racking up five goals and five assists in his 14 appearances. 

His sparkling performances have also seen him bag more Player of the Match gongs than any other player, as he continues to sprinkle his undoubted talent across the Como attack.

Attack - Christian Pulisic (Milan)

If only the American had been fit for more of the campaign, because when he was in the Milan team, he made a massive impact. 

Pulisic has scored seven goals in Serie A so far, but it's not just about the number of goals he's scored; it's the timing of them for the US star. 

He was the man of the match (with a goal and assist) against champions Napoli, as well as scoring the only goal of the game in the Milan derby. Big. Game. Player.

Striker - Lautaro Martinez (Inter) 

'El Toro' has once again been Inter's talisman this season and currently tops the goalscoring charts in Serie A. 

It's no coincidence that Christian Chivu's side got over their early-season jitters when the Argentine got over his injury and returned to the side. 

As the focal point in attack, Martinez has already netted eight goals and three assists so far, and his form could lead the Milan side all the way to the Serie A title this season.

Attack - Kenan Yildiz (Juventus) 

It's been a stop-start campaign for Juventus, but the one constant has been the form and influence of Kenan Yildiz in the club's attack.

Yildiz has been the creative spark for Luciano Spalletti, scoring five goals and assisting another four so far this campaign. 

If he carries on in this vein of form, The Old Lady could have a job hanging onto the 20-year-old, with him already being linked with a big move out of Serie A.
