UFC 264 results: Dustin Poirier wins trilogy after Conor McGregor suffers gruesome leg injury

UFC 264 results: Dustin Poirier wins trilogy after Conor McGregor suffers gruesome leg injuryDAZN
The highly anticipated trilogy bout ends in unfortunate circumstances.

It was thought that the score would be settled in the trilogy fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier on Saturday night at UFC 264.

That doesn't look to be the case after McGregor threw a left hand at the end of the first round and his left leg shattered under him and he couldn't continue which gave Poirier the win via TKO due to a doctor's stoppage.

McGregor came out with two spinning back body kicks and then a calf kick like Poirier did to him in the rematch at UFC 257. The Irishman continued the leg assault with a series of leg kicks. McGregor stunned Poirier with a left hand. Poirier came back with a leg kick of his own and then a left hand to send McGregor back.

McGregor went for a jumping guillotine. He squeezed as hard as he could but Poirier slipped out. Poirier then went to work. He connected on a series of elbows and punches and had McGregor in serious trouble. The fight made it back to his feet. McGregor attempted a left, missed and his left leg went under him and shattered.

McGregor screamed in agony as soon as it happened. Poirier saw what happened and took advantage by trying to put McGregor away with a barrage of shots. The horn sounded and McGregor continued to scream and was in serious pain. The ringside doctor came in and stopped the fight.

McGregor was taken off on a stretcher after his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.

Poirier (28-6, one contest) took great pleasure in what happened as he strutted like McGregor. Poirier felt the injury happened early in the fight which caused what happened at the end of the contest.

"He fractured it on one of the checks at the beginning of the fight, then it broke on a punch, for sure," Poirier said to Rogan. "I pointed at him at the beginning of the fight, that's when I checked a kick, that's when it cracked."

McGregor wasn't happy with how the fight ended and was insistent that it was a doctor's stoppage and didn't agree with Poirier's assessment.

"I was boxing the bleeding head off him, kicking the bleeding leg off... this is not over," McGregor told Rogan. "If we have to take this outside for him, it's all outside, I don't give a b—ocks!"

Here is what happened at UFC 264: Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier 3.
