The UFC hosted an action-packed Fight Night card from Kansas City on Saturday night in Missouri.
Headlining the card was a welterweight scrap between two of the UFC's biggest rising stars in the division. Ian Machada Garry returned for the first time since his loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov in December. He was looking to prove the loss was a fluke, not a trend, when he took on Fighting Nerds member Carlos Prates. He did just that when he dominated Prates over the course of four rounds, only facing adversity in the final minutes of round four.
"Not hurt enough to know where I was," Garry said when asked about the troubles in the fifth round. "The guy is a legend."
Garry announced he's the official back-up fighter for the UFC welterweight title in two weeks.
Prates suffered his first loss in the UFC, a hard-fought affair across five rounds.
In the co-main event, UFC legend Anthony Smith retired after Zhang Mingyang TKO'd him to a bloody mess in the first round.
