The NFL honors takes place tonight, February 6, which will include revealing the much coveted MVP award.
As always, the list of nominees sparked excitement, confusion, and heated debate, with NFL analysts and fans arguing over which players deserve the nod and questioning why others were left off the list.
DAZN News previews each of the eight awards and offers predictions of the winners.
Despite producing a record-breaking season that helped propel the Eagles to the Super Bowl, history suggests Saquon Barkley faces challenging odds in this category because quarterbacks have dominated the MVP award for decades.
Jared Goff and Joe Burrow enjoyed career years, making excellent use of the talented receivers at their disposal.
However, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson arguably did more with less to help their respective teams reach the postseason.
Predicted MVP winner: Josh Allen
Baun deserves plaudits for emerging from nowhere to become a true difference-maker in the heart of a revamped Eagles defense.
NFL sack leader Trey Hendrickson and superstar Myles Garrett had excellent seasons, achieving incredible feats despite having little help on their respective defensive lines.
Despite Watt’s heroics, Patrick Surtain II is predicted to win this award. He cemented his status as arguably the best cornerback in the league by leading the Broncos’ defense to new heights in 2024.
Predicted Defensive Player of the Year winner: Patrick Surtain II
Chase may feel aggrieved if he does not win after leading the NFL in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.
Henry was his usual dominant self and deserves to be in the conversation after helping the Ravens to the most team rushing yards in the league.
Still, it seems only fair that Barkley should win this award after producing one of the greatest seasons by a running back in NFL history.
Predicted Offensive Player of the Year winner: Saquon Barkley
Choosing between these five players is challenging because they each enjoyed a remarkable rookie year.
Nix surprised everyone with his efficiency, while Bowers, Nabers, and Thomas Jr. set various NFL and team records.
Despite the incredible performances of the others on this shortlist, Jayden Daniels cannot be denied what should rightfully be his after a masterful rookie year.
Predicted Offensive Rookie of the Year winner: Jayden Daniels
Robinson and Fiske exceeded expectations as disruptive pass rushers early in their careers.
Mitchell and DeJean were key components of a much-improved Eagles secondary.
Few would begrudge Mitchell winning the award for his efforts, but Verse is more deserving after producing six sacks and consistent pressure all season.
Predicted Defensive Rookie of the Year winner: Jared Verse
Darnold faded when it mattered most but otherwise enjoyed a remarkable career turnaround.
Dobbins and Gonzalez overcame significant injuries in 2023 to become major contributors for their teams this season.
Hamlin, who suffered a cardiac arrest in January 2023, arguably deserves the award more than when he was nominated last year after playing a major role in the Bills’ secondary this season.
While all the shortlisted candidates would make worthy winners, it is difficult to look beyond Burrow, who elevated his game and the Bengals’ aerial attack to new heights after he missed most of the 2023 season with a torn ligament in his wrist.
Predicted Comeback Player of the Year winner: Jared Verse
Reid and Campbell led their teams to the number one seeds in the AFC and NFC, respectively.
Payton deserves credit for guiding the Broncos to their first playoff appearance since 2015.
Quinn architected a fantastic season for the Commanders, helping them overturn a 4-13 finish in 2023 to a 12-5 season and a playoff berth in 2024. In doing so, Quinn arguably deserves this award.
However, O’Connell remains the bookmakers’ favourite after helping the Vikings turn their 7-10 record 2023 into a 14-3 season in 2024.
Predicted Coach of the Year winner: Kevin O’Connell
Fangio and Flores had talent at their disposal, but how they managed to build a cohesive defensive unit capable of competing with the best must not be overlooked.
Aaron Glenn helped the Lions’ defense remain competitive despite season-ending injuries to several defensive players, including star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson.
Brady was the mastermind behind a Josh Allen-led offense which didn’t feature any star receivers.
In Detroit, Johnson created one of the most explosive offenses in football, and he’s already reaped the rewards for his efforts.
Predicted Assistant Coach of the Year winner: Ben Johnson
