The New York Giants are on the verge of landing their next head coach, with former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh set to take over.

Reports from USA Today suggest that “New York and Harbaugh worked hard through the night to finalize the deal,” adding that “Harbaugh has accepted the position, with only paperwork and an official announcement remaining.”

If everything is signed off, Harbaugh, who attracted interest from several teams, will bring what the Giants have been missing: a proven leader with consistency, competitiveness, and a track record that includes a Super Bowl-winning season.

For the Giants, that résumé matters. This would not be a swing on upside or a bet on the next hot coordinator. It would be a choice rooted in trust, experience, and the belief that the organisation needs a steady hand.

The expectation is that Harbaugh could “set a standard” quickly, bringing structure and accountability to a team that has lacked both in recent seasons.

Harbaugh wouldn't be walking into a situation built for immediate success. The Giants still have questions at several positions, and patience will be required.

That said, with an offense featuring Jaxson Dart, Malik Nabers, Cam Skattebo, and Andrew Thomas, and a defense that includes Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, and Dexter Lawrence, the addition of the 63-year-old coach would give New York every opportunity to improve on its 4-13 record from 2025.

Nothing is official yet, but the intent is clear. The Giants are betting that leadership, not reinvention, is the fastest way forward, and that John Harbaugh is the right person to provide it.
