More important than football: "road warrior" DC Terrell Williams to travel with Patriots to Super Bowl LX
When the New England Patriots travel west to lock horns with the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX, they’ll be joined by a familiar and respected presence in defensive coordinator Terrell Williams.
Head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed that his defensive coordinator will travel with the team to Santa Clara, a meaningful step after Williams spent much of the 2025 season focused on his recovery following a prostate cancer diagnosis.

"He's doing well. He's excited about travelling with us, and we're excited about having him," Vrabel said.
Williams stepped back from his day-to-day role earlier in the year, with inside linebackers coach Zak Kuhr taking on primary defensive playcalling duties.
Even then, Williams never fully disappeared. He stayed around the building when he could, staying connected to a defense he helped shape long before the season began.
New England's defense has performed admirably during the playoffs, earning Kuhr rave reviews.
While Kuhr deserves plenty of credit for the work he’s done as interim DC, the way players reacted to Williams’ news speaks volumes about why this defense has thrived.
"He had a lot of hard work and dedication when it came down to this defense, from the beginning. He's been involved when he didn't have to be," cornerback and return specialist Marcus Jones said.
"Battling what we had to battle through, we're glad he's feeling way better," continued Jones, before adding, "It means a lot" to have Williams with the team in San Francisco.
Veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs echoed that sentiment.
Earlier in the year, veteran safety Jaylinn Hawkins also spoke to the value Williams brings to the table: "He is a stand-up dude and a good coach who was always holding us accountable, and always making the game fun, priding us on playing hard, playing for each other."
Super Bowls are often framed around legacies, matchups, and moments. For the Patriots, this one will also carry something quieter - the presence of a coach who never stopped being part of the group, even when he had every reason to step away.
