Canelo Alvarez maintains that he wants Dmitry Bivol rematch next, addresses David Benavidez
Canelo Alvarez maintained all along that he wants a rematch with Dmitry Bivol.
Well, after cruising to a wide unanimous decision win over John Ryder on Saturday night, the undisputed super middleweight king made sure to double down on his plans.
"Everybody knows — we want the rematch with Bivol," Alvarez told DAZN's Chris Mannix when asked about fighting Bivol and David Benavidez Jr. "If the fight with Bivol doesn't happen, then we'll see. I'm able to fight everybody."
When asked if he wants the Bivol rematch at light heavyweight, Alvarez didn't flinch.
"Same rules, same terms, same everything," he tacked on about keeping the rematch at 175 pounds. "I just want it in that way."
Bivol, the WBA world light heavyweight champion, delivered a dominating unanimous decision win over Alvarez in May 2022. Benavidez, the undefeated WBC interim super middleweight champ, has been clamoring for a clash with Canelo for quite some time now.
After defeating rival Gennadiy Golovkin last Septermber, Alvarez underwent surgery on his left hand a month later.
On Saturday night, Alvarez said the left hand felt "very good" and that he's "ready for everything," however, also admitted that he needed a few rounds to make sure of that.
"I needed a couple of rounds, three rounds to start punching and knowing I'm good with the hand," Alvarez said. "Now, I know."
