Carl Froch believes he would knock Tommy Fury out "within six" rounds, while Dave Allen defended the star's bout with Eddie Hall.
'TNT' returns to the ring this weekend in a fascinating Misfits clash against the 2017 World's Strongest Man at Manchester's AO Arena.
In the build-up to his latest bout however, Fury has suggested that he could knock out former super-middleweight champion Froch.
Now, in conversation with heavyweight Allen, the latter has suggested that he would be able to return the favour against the younger man.
"Tommy Fury thinks he KO's me," he said on Froch on Fighting when discussing a hypothetical bout. "What do you think of that? I'm nearly 49.
"I think if I get in with him, I think I'd knock him out probably within six myself. I think I'll get to him. [He's] fighting Eddie Hall next."
Allen, who most recently lost a quick homecoming bout to Filip Hrgovic, suggested however that Fury is making the right calls for his career.
"I do like him," he added. I've known him since he was a kid. I'd probably be doing the same thing. He's not going to become a boxing champion.
"He's not going to be beating [Jai] Opetaia and [David] Benavidez any time soon. What he's doing is the right thing, making a fortune."
Shrewd selections have undoubtedly helped Tommy Fury make his way across a professional career without loss so far inside the ring.
But as Dave Allen observes, 'TNT' is unlikely to follow in the footsteps of half-brother Tyson and become a world-conquering kingpin.
That said, could Carl Froch - a man who operated several divisions lower in his heyday - prove to be a serious knockout threat to him?
Forty-nine next month, 'The Cobra' nabbed two dozen knockouts during an impressive career with multiple world title reigns under his belt.
Unless he opts to put his gloves back on one more time though, this is all mere speculation - albeit speculation that will keep the fans entertained.
