What has happened between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn?

The rivalry between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn was originally built as a generational beef, tracing its roots back to the legendary two-fight series between their fathers.

Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn met in two blockbuster bouts over three decades ago, with the former winning their first fight before a controversial split draw in the second.

At the time they were booked to meet in 2022 at London's The O2 Arena, it was the legacy of their parents that loomed as the driving factor behind their growing rivalry.

But when the fight was pulled at short notice due to an adverse finding for Benn, the antagonism between the two began to further simmer as their deal broke down.

Even as both men have moved onto other fighters, their relationship has continued to twist violently and the prospect of a grudge match on their own terms seemed likely.

The eventual agreement, after Benn confronted Eubank Jr. in the ring following the latter's win against Kamil Szeremeta last October, removed the final stumbling blocks.

Matters came to a boil at a February press event in Manchester, when Eubank Jr. slapped Benn across the face with an egg, further amplifying the animosity between them.

Chris Eubank Jr. form guide

Eubank Jr. arrives having fought three times since he was originally set to meet Benn in 2022, and has recorded two wins and one loss during the interim period.

'Next Gen' suffered a shock loss to ex-light-middleweight world champion Liam Smith in early 2023, but subsequently avenged defeat with a return victory later that year.

He most recently outclassed and outmatched Szeremeta at a Riyadh Season event in the final quarter of 2024, securing a seventh-round stoppage to make a 34-3 record.

Benn has fought twice since he was originally set to meet Eubank Jr., with both of his fights coming in America during a period between suspensions enforced by UKAD.

'The Destroyer' first fought Rodolfo Orozco in September 2023, marking his first bout since April 2022, and scored a unanimous decision victory in his comeback clash.

He subsequently fought and defeated Peter Dobson in Las Vegas in February 2024 too, again by unanimous decision, and improving his professional record to 23-0.

What has been said before Chris Eubank Jr. vs Conor Benn?

Benn has switched between both trash-talking his opponent and celebrating his own legacy, almost a decade after he turned professional and entered the ring.

Speaking on social media this month, the star admitted he was shocked to be topping such a historic bill, stating: "Nine years ago today I made my debut. What a blessing.

"Nine years ago, did I think I would be headlining a stadium fight in a fight that will go down in British history? Probably not, but life is a blessing and full of adversity."

Eubank Jr. conversely has been quieter than his opponent as he focuses on the task in hand, though he has continued to take jabs across social media platforms too.
