Popular heavyweight Dave Allen has signed a new contract with Matchroom boxing

Allen, who beat Johnny Fisher last weekend in five rounds in London, announced the move on social media, saying that he was looking forward to challenging for the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles.

On Instagram, Allen said that he and promoter Eddie Hearn had a close and beneficial relationship.

He said: "Eddie’s cool. I rung him in 2022; I needed some advice about something not even boxing related. I think I’d had two four rounders in three years. I messaged him on Instagram and said, ‘Mate I need you to ring me please. I need some advice.’ And he rung within about 30 seconds and that stuck with me.”

He added: “Another time, I was meant to box and the fight fell through. It was no fault of his and he came and gave me some money. He said, ‘Look, you’re not boxing - you’re not getting paid,’ and gave me some money. There have been times when it hasn’t been so good, but its little things like that, I don’t forget them”

With Allen now back in Hearn’s stable, a trilogy fight with Fisher is on the cards, but the Matchroom boss believes both men would benefit from taking fights in between.

He said: “I can see the trilogy one day…but not next.”

He continued on Allen’s future: “Dave's obviously now with Matchroom again, I was laughing about that with him and it’s going to be exciting to see what’s next. The Johnny Fisher trilogy is there. There is a headline fight in Sheffield, there’s keeping him active as well, Dave’s got a massive profile you could hear it in there tonight, and by the way, he’s a lot better than he thinks he is.”

The Doncaster man has signed a two-fight deal with Matchroom and says he and Hearn have plans to fight in July and September with the fight this summer not included in the two fights. But he stressed that doesn’t want to re-tread old ground and would rather take on different fighters.

Allen said to Boxing Now: “I don’t want to do rematches; I want to face new challenges. It’s all about that resume when I’m finished, I want to see a list of names: world title challengers, world champions, British champions, European champions.”

He continued: “That’s what gives me with pride, I want to fill my resume with different names”.
