Eddie Hearn is in discussions to make a huge fight for Callum Smith later this year at the top of the light-heavyweight division.
The result opened the door for huge showdowns in the future and one possible option for Smith is David Benavidez.
The American was recently upgraded to WBC champion after Dmitry Bivol relinquished the belt and his first defence could come against the Liverpool man .
Bivol and Artur Beterbiev are expected to collide for a third time later this year, meaning that Benavidez and Smith will meet in the hope of facing the winner of the trilogy at some point in 2026.
Hearn, who has guided Smith for large portions of his career, has revealed he has spoken with Luis De Cubas at PBC and is hopeful a deal can be made.
“We’re discussing that fight with Luis. No firm offers made but tell me another fight that Benavidez could make,” said Hearn when speaking with Boxing News .
“That light heavyweight division is actually quite thin at the top in terms of big names. I think Callum’s got great options ahead.
“He’s going to be mandatory to Dmitri Bivol you’ve got the potential [Anthony] Yarde fight on a 5 v 5, you’ve got the Benavidez fight. It’s really interesting and I think David Benavidez against Callum Smith is a hell of a fight.”
