Kieron Conway believes his peak years as a fighter remain ahead of him despite his British and Commonwealth title loss to George Liddard.

The star was handed a tenth-round defeat in his defence of the Lonsdale Belt at middleweight, losing his grip on the domestic division's crown.

A late injury in the latter half seemed to hinder Conway just as he sought to try and turn the tide, and his opponent dispatched him in short order.

Reflecting on the result and his performance, the former champion vowed to return, and stressed that he believes his best is yet to come too.

"It was about round eight," he said in the ring afterwards. "I felt I was just about to start picking the tempo up.

"I landed a left hand, and straight away, I felt [something had gone]. I fought with my right for the next few rounds.

"It was hard enough to do it in one hand. George is a good fighter. He made it difficult me and it was hard to get that rhythm.

"He was a lot quicker on the feet than I expected. I'm 29, I feel like I'm coming into my peak. We'll see what's next, let the injuries heal and we'll be back."
