IBF and Ring Magazine cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia has promised he will not let his title belts leave Australia come the end of his next fight.

Opetaia is in action on Sunday, live on DAZN, when he takes on Italy's Claudio Squeo at the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Broadbeach

The 29-year-old will be returning to the site of a successful title defence earlier this year when he clashed with New Zealand's David Nyika.

The contest was a short one with Opetaia knocking out Nyika in the fourth round with the latter being brought in as a late replacement opponent on three weeks' notice.

Speaking to DAZN at Thursday's open workouts, Opetaia is ready for a tough encounter against the undefeated Squeo.

"We are prepared for war, 12 rounds of war, like always," Opetaia said.

"We’ve taken this guy very seriously, he’s coming to take the world title away from Australia and we can’t let that happen.

"However this fight pans out, I have an answer for. I’ve been in the trenches, I’ve been pushing my body, let’s get it done."

If Opetaia successfully retains his IBF and Ring Magazine cruiserweight belts, it could kickstart what could be a memorable week for Australian boxing.

Just six days later, Opetaia's fellow countryman, George Kambosos Jr will look to become a two-time world champion when he faces IBF super lightweight champion Richardson Hitchins at Madison Square Garden's Theater live on DAZN
