Jaron Ennis will move past Eimantas Stanionis this weekend and become unified world champion at welterweight.
That’s the verdict of Teddy Atlas who recently took the time to discuss the intriguing clash that will see the victor undoubtedly become the world’s best fighter at 147lbs.
Ennis and Stanionis will headline in Atlantic City, live on DAZN , and the winner can expect to jump into another huge fight later this year.
Both unbeaten fighters are in a confident mood ahead of this clash and each brings a style that has saw them enjoy many great moments in the sport so far.
Stanionis, Lithuania’s only world champion, has also climbed the rankings quietly but a win against Ennis can raise his profile massively and perhaps set up another unification battle in 2025.
Atlas, who is looking forward to the fight, is the latest high-profile figure to give his opinion on what might go down on America’s East Coast.
“I don’t see Ennis having a problem with him. I see Ennis controlling the outside. I see him making him pay a price to get inside because Stanionis can’t win on the outside,” said Atlas when speaking on The Fight podcast .
“He’s going to have to get inside and make something happen with Ennis. I see Ennis making him pay a price with the uppercut, with the jab, making it hard for him to get inside. And then even on the inside, I see Ennis, he knows how to fight inside too.
“I see him having the edge with hand speed. He throws short punches. He can put power punches together.”
