'This is the test!' - Dillian Whyte offers gauntlet to confirm Moses Itauma's credentials

Moses Itauma needs a victory against Dillian Whyte to confirm he is worthy of a world title shot, but Barry Jones warns the senior man will be determined to prove his worth, too.

The pair meet tonight at Riyadh's ANB Arena, in a heavyweight battle that pits the WBO #1 contender against the former WBC interim title holder live on DAZN Pay-Per-View.

Itauma has long been considered the future of the glamour division, but has yet to beat an opponent who carries a reputation like Whyte in the ring and find himself truly tested.

Speaking on DAZN's coverage, former world champion Jones believes that this is the bout the former needs to confirm his credentials to become the heir apparent to the crown.

"The experience this man has [is great]," he said. "The waiting game for the world title shot, and of course, being in with some of the biggest heavyweight names of the division.

"Moses has looked fantastic. I think he has a really intelligent brain to go with his ability. But he hasn't been dragged into deep waters; he hasn't had his chin checked.

"This is the test and the start he needs to get a world title shot. [Whyte is] British. Who wants to lose to a local rival? There's so much hype around Moses Itauma.

"He wants to prove people wrong. He's been in this situation before, where other people have written him off, and he's proved people wrong.

"He's 37, and he's had a long, hard career. Common sense says you can't keep going to the well, and the way he fights, that is impossible. But can he get there one last time?"
