Boxing News Daily Round-Up: Naseem Hamed's movie, Gervonta Davis' latest legal issue, and Tyson Fury's world title incentive

DAZN
Ring 6: López vs Stevenson on DAZN PPV - Jan 31

Another day in boxing and there are several big stories.

DAZN News takes a closer look at some of the stories people are waking up to today. Thursday, January 29.

What's happening in the boxing world today?

Prince Naseem Hamed movie continues to have an impact

The Prince Naseem Hamed movie may have been in cinemas for a number of weeks, but the film is still irking members of the British boxing community.

Throughout the movie, Hamed and his trainer, Brendan Ingle, achieve plenty, but with success comes trouble and the pair are constantly arguing over financial arrangements.

Hamed has continued to defend the portrayal of the relationship during interviews to publicise the movie, but Johnny Nelson, Ingle’s world cruiserweight champion, has leaped to his trainer’s defence.

"A lot of things he has said during the premiere are disgusting, they are lies. He told it from his point of view, we all had the talk about money. Brendan was never about money,” said Nelson on talkSPORT

"Brendan was in the same house when he died, Naseem was the one who lived on the other side of town. Silence is compliance, so I have to say something, it is complete bulls--t. You hear him contradict himself.

"I've shone light on the wrongs he is saying. I don't understand what he is saying, why did Brendan walk away if it was about the money?"

Boxing fans were treated to several editions of Rocky, at this rate, it looks like Giant may need a sequel.

Tyson Fury set for WBC approval

Tyson Fury is back in April after his fight with Arslanbek Makhmudov was confirmed for Netflix.

The former champion has been inactive since the end of 2024, but a win over Makhmudov is set to give him a lofty ranking with the WBC.

Fury is eager to become world champion for a third time, and he can only get closer to that dream with victory over the heavy-handed Makhmudov.

Mauricio Sulaiman, the WBC President, has long enjoyed a prosperous friendship with Fury and he has made it clear that whoever comes out on top later this year can expect to be awarded with a WBC rating.

"As a former champion, he has rights and privileges and absolutely I am sure the winner will be highly ranked in the WBC," said Sulaiman when speaking to Sky Sports

"[Makhmudov] was a WBC International and Silver champion, he's solid, strong. To come back from a long layoff out of the ring, it's an interesting challenge for Fury."

“Tyson Fury is Tyson Fury. He's a sensational ambassador for boxing, great fighter, he has a tremendous following and I'm very excited.”

Gervonta Davis Arrested

Gervonta Davis has finally been arrested two weeks after a warrant was issued for numerous charges.

Davis, one of boxing’s most popular fighters, has been missing from the boxing ring since he was held to a draw by Lamont Roach in March 2025.

The Baltimore man was scheduled to face Jake Paul at the end of last year in an exhibition bout, but organisers postponed the contest when it emerged that Davis was facing an investigation for assaulting a woman in October last year.

Davis is facing charges of battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping, and it appears the biggest fight of his life is going to be in the courtroom.

As it stands, Davis has no fights lined up despite being an unbeaten attraction who has scored wins over the likes of Frank Martin and Ryan Garcia.

Despite those successes, Davis’ conduct outside the ring is often the main talking point surrounding him and until those changes, it looks like his incredibly high ceiling will never be touched.
