Oleksandr Usyk, Derek Chisora share heartfelt greeting at open workouts
Looking at the personalities of unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and Derek Chisora, one could assert that they are polar opposites and wouldn't get along. But after their hotly contested affair in October 2020 in which Usyk won via unanimous decision, a respect and bond was formed between the two.Â
That was evident during Wednesday's open workout, ahead of Usyk's quest to become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion on Saturday as he battles IBF titlist Daniel Dubois from Wembley Stadium in London, England, live on DAZN PPV. As Usyk was pulling up to the venue for the workout, none other than Chisora was waiting in anticipation.Â
When Usyk walked out of the luxury vehicle, the former foes, now friends, embraced. Then, as Usyk was leaving the workout, they hugged again with the fans chanting, 'Derek, Derek, Derek' with the champion pumping his fist in the air to show for Chisora.Â
In his last time out back in February, Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) dropped and defeated fellow heavyweight contender Otto Wallin by unanimous decision. It is unknown when Chisora will return to action as he's vowed to retire in his next fight, which would be the 50th in his career.Â
