Oscar Collazo is hell-bent on experiencing undisputed glory in 2026.

Trying to reach that destination, the Puerto Rican warrior will have to first put his WBA and WBO unified minimumweight world titles on the line against Filipino fighter Jayson Vayson on Saturday night at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California, and live on DAZN.

Standing 5-foot-2 in boxing’s lightest weight class, the 28-year-old Collazo (12-0, 9 KOs) sure packs a punch, having registered two straight knockout victories including a fifth-round stoppage of Edwin Cano in March. Vayson (14-1-1 with 1 no contest, 8 KOs) has a two-fight knockout streak of his own going, having last disposed of Jirawat Aiamong in two rounds in March as well.

Will Collazo showcase his skills en route to a dominating defense of his unified crown? Or will Vayson be the roadblock on the champ’s path to undisputed bliss by producing a huge upset?

With the stakes high, DAZN News analyzes who has the edge heading into this championship bout.

Boxing Styles

Always jabbing at opponents behind a disciplined guard, Oscar Collazo also enjoys changing levels and blasting away at the body with blunt deposits early into fights.

Both weapons chip away at opponents as Collazo prepares to unload his nasty right hook.

That heavy-handed punch, in addition to a stinging body blow, left Edwin Cano crumbled on the canvas in a heap of pain earlier this year.

What also makes the unified champ special is his ability to counter off the back foot, piecing together combinations with excellent punch selection and placement.

Collazo’s style will be pitted against a Jayson Vayson, 27, who also sets up his body blows with the jab which the Filipino fighter doubles up on with speed and accuracy.

Vayson recorded his last victory via a barrage of body shots.

Both the champion and challenger are capable of generating pressure. Collazo’s deeper bag of punches gives him the edge here, though.

Power

At 5-foot-2, the power that Collazo is able to generate from his slight frame is impressive as the holder of half the minimumweight titles has ended nine of his 12 fights by the way of knockout.

Vayson, too, has power to his punch with eight of his 14 wins being delivered by knockout.

What makes Collazo’s knockout power different is the variation of punches he can generate pop from. Whether it is a power jab, slicing uppercut, or that vaunted right hook, the Puerto Rican southpaw knows how to unload punches with devastating results.

If this is his road to undisputed, the right hook is his brick hand laying the groundwork along the way.

Mental Warfare

Since suffering his sole loss — a February 2023 unanimous decision to Japanese fighter Seigo Yuri Akui — Vayson is on a four-fight win streak. Three of those wins have come by the way of knockout.

That said, this marks Vayson’s first crack at a world championship and with it comes a steep climb in competition.

Simply put: Collazo has the world championship experience and ring savvy that Vayson lacks.

That gives Collazo a big mental advantage heading into this bout.

Who has the edge in Collazo vs Vayson?

If Collazo is going to unify further at 105 pounds against IBF titleholder Pedro Taduran and WBC champ Melvin Jerusalem, who he already defeated in May 2023, he is going to have to get past Vayson first.

That should give Collazo all the motivation he needs to not suffer a letdown Saturday night in California.

It is a big reason why DAZN News gives him the 3-0 edge heading into this bout.

Amanda Serrano is the first Puerto Rican boxer to become undisputed in the modern four-belt era and Collazo wants to join her.
