'The better team did not win' - Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim bemoans 'unlucky' loss to Aston Villa

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim doesn't think Aston Villa outperformed his side in Sunday's 2-1 win for the Villans.

Morgan Rogers struck for two superb curling goals for Villa while Matheus Cunha scored Man United's lone tally as the Red Devils became the latest victims in Villa's 10-game winning streak.

However, Amorim wasn't overly impressed with the red-hot winning side on Sunday, stating his belief that Man United's lack of luck had more to do with the result than Villa's brilliance.

The Red Devils outshot and outpossessed their opponents despite playing away at Villa Park, and they saw several great opportunities in front of goal amount to nothing.

"I think we were the better team today," Amorim told Sky Sports. "We were unlucky, even with the injury of Bruno [Fernandes], but during the game, even without him, we were the better team.

"We blocked the transitions quite well, and they did really well. We did a very good job, that no one is going to remember tomorrow because what matters is the result.

"We already knew that Aston Villa play with everybody inside, and we needed to overload that situation. We have been training like that. We did different options, we can use different starting elevens depending on the game, so we are improving.

"Again, I think we deserved so much more today, but the better team did not win."

Despite the disappointment, Amorim knows that the games will continue to pile up during this busy part of the Premier League season. Man United will already be without several players due to international obligations and injuries, and while a victory on Sunday would have made the absences easier to deal with, he wants his players to look forward rather than dwell on what could have been against Aston Villa.

"We need to prepare all the guys that we have for the next game," the Man United manager said. "We cannot use anything as an excuse. No one is going to remember these problems, so let's cope with that. It will make us stronger.

"I saw from the beginning of the season a team that is going forward, but sometimes relax a little bit and sometimes is not there in the right moment to fight. Today was completely the opposite; we were the better team against a team that is strong at home and in a very good run. We were really unlucky today."
