Inter Milan go into the FIFA Club World Cup looking to bounce back from their disastrous showing in last month's Champions League final.

The Italians were put to the sword by Paris Saint-Germain as Luis Enrique's side ran riot with a 5-0 win, but now have an immediate chance to make up for their disappointment with a good showing in the States.

Lautaro Martinez was part of that Inter team in Munich, but ahead of their clash with Monterrey, he admits it's time to move on from the defeat, despite how much it hurt.

He said, “We have to turn the page and not dwell on what happened. I don’t understand how we could waste such a great opportunity in that way.

"That night, we couldn’t do anything, and for our opponents, everything was possible — that wasn’t us, we weren’t a team. That’s football. Still, we have to keep going. There’s no other way, even if it stays in our heads.

"We are Inter, a mature team, and we always strive for the top. In this tournament, we want to reach the final again. I want to give everything I have to help the team. There’s no looking back anymore."

Those players will take to the pitch under new management, however, after Cristian Chivu was named the new Inter manager following Simone Inzaghi's departure after that Champions League defeat.

The former Inter defender may have been there a matter of weeks, but Martnez has been impressed by the ethos of the Romanian.

Adding, "I understood and saw in him the desire to win — his mentality is similar to mine. Like Chivu, I also spoke to my teammates.

"I asked them not to give up and explained that we need to make one more push before the break, finish this final stretch to keep growing.

After their 1-1 draw with Monterrey, Inter face games against Urawa Red Diamonds and River Plate in Group E.
