Pep Guardiola is already the manager with the most FIFA Club World Cup titles to his name, having won it four times.

After leading Barcelona to the prestigious trophy on two occasions, Guardiola scooped it with Bayern Munich before repeating the feat with Manchester City two years ago.

He is also the only manager to have won it with three clubs after his successes in 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2023.

This week, all eyes will be on the Spaniard as he bids to lead City to glory once again in the US and reaffirm his status as the greatest manager of the modern era.

FIFA Club World Cup 2025

City play their opening game against Wydad AC and then face Al Ain before a final group game against Italian giants Juventus as they bid to reach the knockout stages.

There can be no denying that is has been a tough campaign for Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium as City prepare to head Stateside for the Club World Cup.

His men were crowned Premier League champions in each of the past four seasons, a feat unprecedented in English football history which reinforced the view of Guardiola as a tactical genius.

His patient, possession-based philosophy of playing out from the back has become deeply ingrained within the British game since he arrived in the summer of 2016.

But City never looked like extending their title-winning run this season.

When Tottenham Hotspur beat Guardiola’s men 4-0 in Manchester last November, it marked the end of City’s incredible 52-match unbeaten record at the Etihad.

That loss came during a seven-match winless run which saw rival supporters mock City’s highly-decorated boss with chants of "You’re getting sacked in the morning."

Guardiola was criticised for failing to refresh his squad and adequately replace key midfielder Rodri after he was struck down by an ACL injury last September.

Nevertheless, Guardiola remains one of world football’s finest head coaches. That cannot be denied.

It was during City’s troubled autumn of 2024 that Guardiola, who was due to be out of contract this summer, signed a two-year contract extension which will keep at the club until 2027.

As he looks to patiently write a new chapter in the blue half of Manchester, Guardiola will surely relish the challenge of adding another World Club Cup to his bulging trophy cabinet.

After a disappointing 2024-25 campaign, the biggest and most lucrative Club World Cup is a chance for the former Barcelona star to show that he remains a serial trophy winner.

Only a fool would bet against him achieving it.
