Serie A is home to some of the biggest names in the game, from the bulk of the current Italy national team to some of the most exciting players from around the world.

However, in recent seasons, it's also been the setting for familiar faces in the Premier League to reboot their career or those seeking a new challenge.

Here are five former Premier League names that have shone in Serie A.

Scott McTominay

The poster boy for this theme, Scott McTominay's evolution in Italy, was one of last season's most surprising stories and another indictment of what leaving Manchester United seems to do for your career.

The driving Scottish midfielder, who always had a place in the United team, especially with the fans, somewhat reluctantly left Old Trafford in the summer of 2024, but no one could foresee the impact he'd have in Naples.

He scored twelve goals as Napoli clinched the Serie A title and became the heartbeat of the team. Winning the Serie MVP award, being named in the team of the season and even receiving a Ballon d'Or nomination. A far cry from the mess of the season he left behind in Manchester.

Dispelling any notion of being a one-season wonder, McTominay has continued where he left off in 2025-26, scoring on the opening day and forming a new formidable partnership with Kevin De Bruyne.

Christian Pulisic

Captain America won three trophies at Chelsea and became the first American to play in a Champions League final during his spell in West London, but never was never consistently considered a first-team starter with the club.

However, since his move to Milan, the forward has flourished and used that experience at Stamford Bridge, plus his breeding with Borussia Dortmund, to become one of the Rosseneri's key men.

He's netted 37 goals in just over 100 appearances for the club and twice been named in Serie A's team of the season. His numbers mean he's now surpassed the record of Clint Dempsey of having the most goals in a top-5 European league by any USMNT player.

Lloyd Kelly

A transfer destined to end up on a list alongside Julien Faubert at Real Madrid, Kelly's move from the black and white stripes of Newcastle to those of Juventus was one that raised eyebrows in February, but the ever-reliable defender has thrived in Turin.

Initially joining on loan, the former Bournemouth man made 19 appearances for the Old Lady last season and his move was made permanent in the summer under boss Igor Tudor.

That investment looks to have already paid off with Kelly notching in vital goals against Inter and then his stoppage-time equaliser in the dramatic Champions League draw with Borussia Dortmund, as well as becoming an first-choice in the Old Lady's backline.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Milan has become the home of English names looking for a new lease of life. Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham and even Kyle Walker have benefitted from a spell at the San Siro, but perhaps none more so than Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The midfielder, who was part of Gareth Southgate's squad at the 2018 World Cup, swapped squad player status at Stamford Bridge for the delights of Milan, and he's never looked back.

With the Italian giants, he's become a first-team regular and a big favourite with the Milan fans thanks to his imposing frame and box-to-box attributes.

His form has been so good, it saw Thomas Tuchel recall the 29-year-old to the England fold in September, seven years after his last cap.

Still only 24, there were great hopes for Gilmour at Chelsea when Frank Lampard promoted the talented midfielder into the Blues' first team.

While it was clear the technically gifted Scotsman had bags of ability, he struggled to break into Chelsea's bloated squad thanks to a combination of form and fitness and would fare better during a spell with Brighton as he helped the club qualify for Europe for the first time.

His performances caught the eye of Napoli and he moved to join fellow Scottish star McTominay in Naples ahead of last season. Gilmour would go on to make 28 appearances for Antonio Conte's men as they bagged the Serie A title.

Now firmly part of the furniture with the champions, he scored his first-ever professional goal this past week in the 3-2 win over Pisa.
