Tributes have poured in from around the boxing world for Georgia O’Connor after her passing was announced on Thursday, May 22.

O’Connor, who recently married partner Antonio to become Georgia Cardinali, was an undefeated prospect with a record of 3-0.

The 25-year-old posted in January that she had been diagnosed with cancer. Following the news of her passing, many figures from around the boxing world released tributes and recalled memories of the Durham-born boxer.

O’Connor’s promoter, Ben Shalom of BOXXER, took to Twitter to write: “It’s hard to make sense of this… a lot goes on in life but nothing else matters other than your family and your health.

He added: “My heart goes out to Georgia’s parents and partner, who I know did everything they could tirelessly and are going through so much right now. Georgia was an inspirational person and one I’ll never forget. So sorry for her family and all her friends. Truly heartbreaking.”

I will always cherish your very kind and supportive messages. A true champ and inspiration to us all. Sending my love and condolences to all of Georgia's family and friends.”

O’Connor’s impact was noticed on the other side of the pond, with one of the biggest names in women’s boxing, Claressa Shields, sharing her condolences.

Paraphrased from her Twitter post, undisputed heavyweight champion Shields said: “RIP Georgia, my feelings are so hurt. I hate cancer. She fought so hard. I’m gonna miss such a kind and beautiful spirit. Some people are just too precious to this world.”
