Canelo Alvarez will be delighted to see the back of William Scull after the Cuban frustrated him for large parts of their undisputed super-middleweight clash.

Canelo was awarded the contest by the ringside judges after forcing the pressure all fight, but any success he enjoyed was minimal as Scull refused to engage, opting to box on the move with little joy .

The win means that Canelo once again holds all four belts at super-middleweight and his next defence of his crown will come on September 12 when he faces Terence Crawford in Las Vegas.

Despite setting up one of the biggest fights of his career, Canelo admitted some frustration after his latest fight due to the strategy applied by Scull.

Canelo is no stranger to being opposed by defensive fighters, but after failing to fully get to grips with Scull, the Mexican superstar is not a fan of survival tactics, and he made that clear when speaking after the bout.

“He just came to survive from the third round that’s why I don’t like it,” said Canelo when reflecting on the contest afterwards.

“For me that’s a boring fight when a fighter doesn’t try to win, just tries to survive. I hate those kind of fighters.

“He moved even more than I thought he would. But it’s OK, we won. I’m a two-time undisputed champion and I’m proud to fight in Saudi Arabia.”
