Josh Taylor is hoping to prove a point when he returns to Glasgow on May 24.
In what will be his first fight for 12 months, Taylor will take on Ekow Essuman at Glasgow OVO Hydro live on DAZN, and it will mark a new chapter in the Scotsman's career.
After becoming undisputed at super lightweight, Taylor is finally making the move up to welterweight where he will take on Ekow Essuman, an established name at 147lbs.
With Terence Crawford no longer campaigning at welterweight, and IBF champion Jaron 'Boots' Ennis seemingly set for a move to light middleweight, there is a chance for Taylor to assert himself as a force in one of boxing's most popular and historic weight classes.
Speaking at Wednesday's launch press conference for his fight with Essuman, Taylor spoke about how important it is to prove a point during his long-awaited return to the ring.
"I’ve been there and done that and worn all four t-shirts at light welter," Taylor said.
"Now I’m back to being the hunter, I’m nothing at welterweight, I’ve come up here to try and prove a point, and become a two-weight world champion.
"I’ve chosen a very tough, tried and tested opponent in Ekow. He’s a great fighter, he’s very tough, very strong, he comes and gives everybody a tough night, so I’m expecting a tough night.
"It’s given me a fire in my belly, a little bit of the fear factor which is what I need during this training camp to bring the best out of myself and I believe I will get the best out of myself facing Ekow."
Taylor will be hopeful he can end a two-fight losing streak on May 24 after suffering defeats to now WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez and Jack Catterall in a rematch of their in 2022.
