The Philadelphia Eagles keep winning and currently sit pretty atop the NFC East, fresh off two close victories against two NFL heavyweights.
If you only glanced at the standings, you could be forgiven for assuming they've picked up right where they left off after winning the Super Bowl last year.
But the reality is that they're not firing on all cylinders. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is limiting mistakes, but he's rarely been a difference-maker this year. Wideout A.J. Brown is unhappy and underperforming, and DeVonta Smith is coming off his quietest game in over a year.
Perhaps more importantly, Saquon Barkley, so dominant in Philadelphia's Super Bowl-winning campaign, is averaging two yards per carry fewer than he did in 2024.
It's a more encouraging story on defense, where, buoyed by the injection of new talent on the trade deadline, the Eagles have found a way to help the team win close games.
But they'll need a repeat performance if they are to tame their fierce NFC East rivals this weekend, because the Dallas Cowboys are ranked 2nd in the league in scoring with 29.6 points per game, with Comeback Player of the Year frontrunner Dak Prescott leading the way.
Dallas' dominant 33-16 beatdown of the Raiders in Week 11 was further evidence of the dangerous connection Prescott has forged with George Pickens, CeeDee Lamb, and tight end Jake Ferguson.
And at running back, Javonte Williams has enjoyed a comeback of epic proportions. He is already within touching distance of the career-best mark he set during his rookie season in 2021.
Dallas faced heavy criticism for woeful defense displays earlier in the season, but the arrival of All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and the return of linebacker DeMarvion Overshown seem to have sparked a remarkable turnaround.
The stage is set for a bitter divisional clash between two bitter foes. Philly edged Round 1, but Round 2 will be bigger, louder, and even more intense.
Whatever you do, make sure you're following the action as it unravels, live on DAZN with your NFL Game Pass.
The Eagles hold a 99% chance of reaching the playoffs and a 41% shot at the NFC’s No. 1 seed, trailing only the Rams (42%).
Their lead in the NFC East is so great that their playoff odds will barely be dented if they lose.
Dallas doesn’t have that luxury. They need a winning run to revive their faint 6% playoff hopes. A win would nudge them up to 11%, but a loss would all but close the door on January football, dropping them to just 3%.
AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas
Nicknamed "Jerry World' after owner Jerry Jones, Dallas' stadium cost $1.3 billion to build and previously hosted Super Bowl XLV.
The Cowboys lead the series 74-59-0, but the Eagles have won the last three meetings.
If Dallas' recent defensive displays are any indication, Philadelphia's offensive struggles could continue here. But the numbers suggest Barkley won't have quite as much difficulty finding open running lanes.
The real question is perhaps whether the Eagles' defense can hold Prescott and co. to as few points as they did the Packers and Lions. If not, we could witness a huge upset.
