With Super Bowl LIX less than three days away, several Philadelphia Eagles players are dealing with illness, potentially disrupting the team’s preparations.
The Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans on Sunday evening in a rematch of the big game two years ago, when the Chiefs came out on top 38-35.
Another close game is predicted this weekend and the Eagles will be desperate for all of their key players to be fully fit.
News broke earlier this week that defensive tackle Jalen Carter was suffering from an undisclosed illness, although he was able to be a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice.
However, Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson told the Philadelphia Inquirer on Thursday that ‘four or five’ of his teammates are also battling an illness that has been around the team since they arrived in the Big Easy. Monday's Media Night in the Superdome saw a massive crowd attend, opening the door for viruses and germs to spread.
Later, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio also confirmed to NBC Sports that an illness has been doing the rounds, with the outlet citing reports that Quinyon Mitchell reportedly has laryngitis.
Carter and Mitchell are two of the Eagles defense’s key players and would be sorely missed, however, neither Johnson, Fangio or any of the other Eagles staff to discuss the news has indicated that any players are set to miss the game.
All eyes will be on the Eagles next injury report.
The Chiefs meanwhile, appear to have a clean bill of health, with head coach Andy Reid confirming his side were carrying no injuries earlier in the week.
