Leigh Wood welcomes Anthony Cacace to his hometown of Nottingham this weekend, when the two super featherweights go head-to-head at the Motorpoint Arena on Saturday, May 10.

The headlining bout is one of 12 fights scheduled by Queensbury Promotions, who have taken the opportunity of a show in a major arena to hand four fighters their professional debuts.

Each member of the quartet boasts pedigree at an amateur level.

Huey Malone – Light welterweight

Huey Malone has waited a bit longer than he would have liked to make his professional debut, with plans for a first bout as a pro in November on the undercard of Liam Davies’ victory over Shabaz Masoud nixed by a medical.

Nicknamed the ‘Pocket Rocket’, Malone will be hoping to shoot through the pro ranks after a respectable 15-4 amateur career.

The light welterweight represented both England and Team GB on the international stage, but Malone decided to turn pro at the age of 22 after missing out on the Olympics last year.

Formerly coached by his dad Brendan at Christ the King ABC in Coventry, Malone is now under the watchful eye of Joe Gallagher. Malone starts his pro career with a six-round bout against Jakub Laskowski (5-35-1).

Harris Akbar – Light middleweight

In comparison, Harris Akbar has a monster record in the amateur ranks, with the Bradford-born Akbar fighting 82 times as an amateur, winning 60 bouts.

The pinnacle of Akbar’s amateur career came in 2022, when he defeated fellow Team GB boxer Garan Croft to claim gold at the European Championships at light middleweight.

After missing out on a spot at the 2024 Olympics with Team GB, Akbar decided to turn his hand to professional boxing. He faces French veteran Octavian Gratii (8-82-4) in a four-rounder.

Charlie Senior - Featherweight

Charlie Senior is another Bradford boxer who makes his professional debut at the weekend. Although born in the same city as Akbar, Senior grew up down under, representing Australia at amateur level.

Like his fellow Bradfordian, Senior has enjoyed a lengthy career in the amateurs, fighting 59 times with a final record of 38-21. His last bout as an amateur was an Olympic semi-final in 2024 when a defeat to Uzbekistan’s Abdumalik Khalokov saw Senior walk away from Paris with a bronze medal at featherweight.

Formerly a dancer before switching to boxing, Senior has been known to celebrate wins in the ring with a backflip. Senior faces Cesar Ignacio Paredes, a Peruvian with a positive record (18-17-1).

Joe Tyers – Super lightweight

Joe Tyers’ amateur career has taken him all around Europe, with 63 bouts (42-21) across 13 different countries.

Hailing from Northumberland, Tyers’ amateur career culminated in a trip to the United States, shortly after missing out on a spot on Team GB for the 2024 Olympics.

A super lightweight, Tyers competed at the Commonwealth Games, representing England, whilst he also reached the semi-finals of the Haringey Cup in 2019 when competing for individual honours.

He has been handed a somewhat difficult task, taking on Mario Valenzuela Portillo, a fighter out of Mexico with a winning CV (8-7-2). That being said, Portillo will be aiming to avoid being knocked out, with a bout against Codie Smith already scheduled for the start of June.
