Supporting the best two fighters in their weight class, Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol, Smith and Buatsi know that victory can earn them a crack at the winner of the main event.
Saturday night's show, build as 'the fight card of the century' live on DAZN PPV, is one of boxing’s biggest ever shows with Smith and Buatsi making up just one part of what should be an eventful night.
Smith is eager to prove himself at the top end of the division after being stopped by Beterbiev last year and standing in his way is the 2016 Olympian.
Buatsi’s climb towards the top has been a slow one thus far, but success against Smith will surely land him a world title shot in 2025.
Last year, Buatsi took huge strides as he scored wins over Dan Azeez and Willy Hutchinson, but Smith is set to be his greatest test to date so far.
The Liverpool man has reigned as world champion at super-middleweight and his only defeats have come in elite company against Beterbiev and Canelo Alvarez.

Tony Bellew, who knows Smith well as the pair both fought for the Rotunda ABC as amateurs, has backed the youngest of the four Smith brothers to get the job done.
“As long as the Beterbiev loss has taken too much away from him, i like Callum in this fight,” said Bellew when speaking to DAZN News.
“Buatsi has shown he can set a fast pace, but Callum can match that and with what Callum is coming back with, I think that will help him as the fight goes on.
“The Beterbiev fight might've left a mark on Callum, so we’ll have to see about that but if he’s at his best and he performs to his best then I think he will win.”
