Catterall (31-2, 13 KOs) bounced from his split decision defeat to Arnold Barboza Jr. with a technical decision success in July over Harlem Eubank, who is the cousin of Eubank Jr., and he will be having his first fight with new coach Derek ‘Bozy’ Ennis this evening.

Essuman (22-1, 8 KOs) has won three in a row since his sole defeat to Harry Scarff and he secured this lucrative contest by outpointing former Catterall foe Josh Taylor in May.

In an intriguing contest, a high profile opponent beckons for the winner and they will both be desperate for a crack at Benn.

Win or lose in his rematch with Eubank Jr., Benn is a massive draw in the UK now and he has signalled his intention to go back down to welterweight after his return with Eubank at middleweight.

However, there are plenty more potential big-name opponents for the winner of Catterall vs. Essuman, with newly-crowned IBF champion Lewis Crocker one of them.

Belfast’s Crocker could be looking for another UK fighter to take on in his first defence and this weekend’s winner could fit the bill.

Roly Romero (WBA), Mario Barrios (WBC) and Brian Norman Jr. (WBO) are the other belt holders at 147lbs and are also possible opponents, but those American champions may see Catterall and Essuman as high risk, low reward.

Following his loss to Crocker,  Paddy Donovan jumps straight into another tasty bout with former IBF champion Liam Paro and whoever comes out on top in that one could be an option for Catterall or Essuman.

Olympic silver medalist Pat McCormack is making his way up the welterweight rankings and if the unbeaten 30-year-old comes through next month’s fight with Conah Walker, then he may fancy a crack at a scalp like Catterall or Essuman.
