Dave Allen has given a positive reaction to Johnny Fisher's decision to change trainers.

Allen and Fisher's rivalry has been an entertaining one. Their first encounter in Saudi Arabia last December was one overshadowed by controversy.

Despite knocking Fisher down in the fifth, 'The Romford Bull' was declared the winner by split decision after 10 gruelling rounds

A rematch followed five months later, and this time around Allen got his revenge with two knockdowns in round five and forced Fisher's corner to throw in the towel

Since then, Fisher has made the decision to change his trainer from Mark Tibbs to Tony Sims who also has Conor Benn under his guidance.

Speaking to The Stomping Ground, Allen gave his thoughts on the switch from Tibbs to Sims.

"I think it’s good, close to home, he’s one of the top trainers in the country," Allen said.

Then came the revelation that Fisher had been training with Allen's coaches Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis, but was there a chance the former rivals could have become stablemates?

"To be honest it’s very busy in here so I don’t think it was an option anyway," Allen continued.

"I don’t think he was looking to come here, and Jamie and Nige are not looking to take anyone else on.

"He didn’t come up on here on a trial basis, he came up here to get back in the gym to do a bit of training with us all.

"I wish him the best."

Allen was speaking at the start of his preparations for a homecoming at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield.

Set for October 11, live on DAZN, Allen will be facing the hard-hitting Arslanbek Makhmudov as 'The White Rhino' continues to dare to dream in boxing's most glamorous weight division.
