Johnny Fisher reveals where he might have made a mistake in boxing career

Masoud vs McGrail - live only on DAZN - Saturday

British heavyweight Johnny Fisher is ready to show why he can still be a major force at heavyweight despite suffering a first professional loss earlier this year.

Fighting on the undercard of Saturday's European super bantamweight title fight between Shabaz Masoud and Peter McGrail in Monaco, Fisher will face late replacement Ivan Balaz exclusively live on DAZN

Fisher was knocked out by Dave Allen in the fifth round of their rematch seven months ago, stalling what had been an enjoyable career so far.

Johnny Fisher admits too many changes made in fighting style

This clash with Balaz will mark the start of something new for Fisher, with this being the first fight with new head trainer Tony Sims.

After being under the watchful eyes of Mark Tibbs, Fisher decided to make a change following the loss to Allen, and it looks like Sims has installed an aggressive mentality into the 'Romford Bull' with Fisher admitting that the constant need to make changes may have worked against him.

"My job is to be destructive, that’s what I’m going to do," Fisher told the media at Thursday's press conference

"Perhaps in the past I’ve tried to change what I am too much. I am the ‘Romford Bull’, I’m an aggressive, attacking fighter, and I believe I’m going to show the best of that on Saturday night.

"A fantastic challenge, and I believe the challenge will bring the best out of me."

Fighting in Monaco will be a huge benefit to Johnny Fisher

He may have no amateur background, but Fisher is one of Britain's most popular fighters.

With an avid and huge fanbase, Fisher's fights are often soundtracked by an electric atmosphere, but also by every member of the media wanting a piece of him due to his immense popularity.

Fighting in Monaco, on the other hand, will provide the right setting for a reset. Only 100 members of the 'Bosh Army' are making the trip; therefore, Fisher is allowed to focus on regaining that winning feeling and not be drained from the carnival that can often accompany his fights.

His promoter, Eddie Hearn, has big plans in 2026, steering Fisher towards a British title fight, but first he must deliver against the undefeated Balaz on Saturday night.
